Mobile World Congress Barcelona 2023: the global event on connectivity

What innovations will we see in the mobile phone world, and what new technologies will hit the market this year?
We at AITech4T, a SME that has been working in the field of Artificial Intelligence for years, found the answer in Barcelona.
From February 27th to March 2nd, the 15th edition of the world’s most important mobile phone fair – Mobile World Congress 2023 – was held in Barcelona.
It is an event created by the Mobile World Capital of Barcelona and has partners such as the Financial Times, The Wall Street Journal, and CNBC.
Active since 2006, each year it offers the opportunity to present the latest innovations in the mobile sector and technology to startups, SMEs, and established companies.
In this way, the MWC is an important international event to get hands-on with the main trends in the Digital and Innovation world.

Together with many companies from around the world, we at WhoTeach, thanks to the contribution of the Italian Trade Agency, had the opportunity to participate in this fair to present our innovative Digital Learning solution for delivering professional online training.

Mobile World Congress: the 2023 Innovations

This year, nearly 75,000 people attended the four-day event to discover and showcase the latest innovations in the telecommunications market.

Industry giants such as Honor, Huawei, OnePlus, and Xiaomi unveiled their new products in a preview during the two days of the preceding weekend.

During the fair days, numerous innovations were presented. In addition to smartphones, computers, and smartwatches, companies and startups from around the world showcased products such as innovative printers, cooling systems, robotic extensions, medical technologies, and many types of smart gadgets.

In the field of Artificial Intelligence, more than 700 startups presented their ideas and innovations. AI is, indeed, a hot topic this year, especially thanks to the enormous success of ChatGPT. Projects that use AI in the fields of cybersecurity, the metaverse, telecommunications, and healthcare were the fair’s protagonists, attracting thousands of visitors and investors eager to get a taste of the future.

The Italian Participation at MWC 2023

At Mobile World Congress, representing Italy was the stand of ITA-ICE.
The ICE agency is the promotional and internationalization agency for Italian companies and aims to facilitate international trade. We at WhoTeach, along with 36 other Italian startups and SMEs, participated in their dedicated space. The Italian pavilion was inaugurated on February 28th by Roberto Nocella, First Consigliere and Head of the Commercial Office of the Italian Embassy in Madrid, Emanuele Manzitti, the Italian Consul General in Barcelona, and Giovanni Bifulco, head of the ICE Office.
Within the pavilion, the startups and SMEs belonging to the collective had their space to present projects in areas of particular relevance today: the metaverse, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence. In this latter field, WhoTeach was among them, presenting our AI-enhanced E-learning platform during the fair.

MWC represented an opportunity to showcase innovative Italian projects internationally. Thanks to the stand provided by ITA-ICE, Italian excellence in technological innovation was able to display its projects in an international environment.

MWC was an opportunity, through the ITA-ICE stand, to bring Italian excellence in technological innovation to an international level, allowing Italian startups and SMEs such as WhoTeach to network and stand alongside industry giants in a dynamic, future-focused environment.

Company Statements

Nicola Riccelli, CEO of Milestn Srl, states: “A unique and special experience in an event rich in culture, innovation, and groundbreaking ideas that create value in the market. It was fundamental and wonderful for networking and for sharing a wealth of innovative ideas with dynamic, creative people.”

Marco Flavio Michele Vismara, CEO of lightScience, says: “MWC 2023 was a splendid experience for lightScience, where we were able to showcase our technologies to bring laboratory quality wherever there is internet connectivity: myLAB (for medical analyses) and L.A.G.O. (for environmental analyses).
We would like to thank ICE, which allowed us to take part in this splendid event. But most of all, we want to say THANK YOU to the Consul General and all the consular staff in Barcelona!

Vasco Petruzzi, CEO of Cybertec Services Srl (Project ComputArte), states: “MWC 2023 in Barcelona is THE event in the world of telecommunications and all the technologies that form its backbone: from networks, to producers of smart devices, to the universe of developers and the oligarchs of operating systems. In a sector engineered to collect as much data as possible continuously and without limits, we were also there with a fully functional prototype of LEALE Technology: a home server in ceramic, shaped like a cat, with a complete AI pipeline to perform voice recognition EXCLUSIVELY locally—not engineered to spy on the user, but rather to defend, protect, and respect their sacred PRIVACY at home, and to allow them to monetize THEIR data only when they desire…simply put, we were the only ones going against the grain, and this was rewarded. We received many praises, contacts, and interest at various levels from different stakeholders.”

Mara Vendramin, CEO of My Money, says: “My Money is an innovative startup operating in the Fintech field. We have patented and developed the first completely biometric and device-free payment system. With our system, we drastically reduce payment fraud and, most importantly, significantly increase financial inclusion. Like all payment systems, My Money knows no borders, and having the opportunity to create partnerships and find customers overseas is extremely important for our growth.
Mobile World Congress is definitely the right place for anyone bringing technological innovation. This is the second year we participate in this event with ICE and the Italian collective, and we are very pleased with the contacts made and the quality of the participants we met during the event, but above all with the organization by ICE, which has become the most important reference in Italy for companies looking to internationalize their products and solutions.”

Salvatore Pepe, CEO of GRAFFITI FOR SMART CITY, says: “Great satisfaction compared to the expectations for the most important event dedicated to mobile technologies, Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, as experienced by Salvatore Pepe, CEO and Founder of the innovative startup Graffiti for Smart City, who is already thinking about the next event – the Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona. Graffiti for Smart City is an innovative startup from Puglia specializing in the production of digital mosaics composed of bioresin tiles and IoT systems. Starting from a digital infrastructure integrated into an artwork, a hi-tech ‘smartwall,’ beautiful and smart walls are created that offer and monitor highly technological services. Through digital graffiti techniques, an artwork is realized even by international artists in a place that becomes a meeting point, an agora. The peculiarity is that, thanks to a control unit integrated into the mosaic and a 5G Wi-Fi hotspot that connects the wall to citizens, a sort of virtual bubble is created. The smart wall thus serves to revitalize peripheral areas, bringing art and services to these urban spaces.”

Francesco Epifania, CEO of WhoTeach, states: “Participating in Mobile World Congress for the first time was a great opportunity for us. Our product WhoTeach helps teachers deliver online courses quickly and easily, allowing the platform to be customized according to their needs. Through our Recommender System, based on Artificial Intelligence and Deep Learning algorithms, teachers can find the resources they need to create their e-learning courses effectively and efficiently.
Bringing our professional Digital Learning solution to the Mobile World Conference meant, for us, demonstrating the impact that innovative technologies can have on people’s real lives by meeting their needs, specifically in the EdTech sector.”

Conclusion

The four days of the fair also allowed us at AITech4T to see what the market offers and which products will represent the innovations in the field of Artificial Intelligence, as well as to compare and listen to the projects of other companies present in our sector.
Participating in events and fairs where technological innovations from around the world are showcased in advance is a tremendous opportunity to get a glimpse of the future of technology.
