Workshop AIABI 2022: Artificial Intelligence between Business and Academia

1 December 2022

The AIABI workshop has reached its second edition. After last year’s entirely remote edition, this year the event will be held on Friday, 2 December 2022, at the University of Udine.

The event, promoted by the Italian Association for Artificial Intelligence – AIxIA as part of its 21st International Conference, is organized by Social Thingum together with the committees of the University of Udine and the University of Macerata.

The aim of the workshop is to allow participants—academics, researchers, and decision-makers from around the world—to share research works and case studies that highlight the impact of Artificial Intelligence and its applications in various sectors of Industry 4.0.

The workshop is an opportunity to meet academics and industry experts, as well as a chance to update oneself on the technologies that will, in the near future, drive the business world toward a marked digital transformation.

Artificial Intelligence Today

Innovative technologies are no longer a luxury today. They are now necessary for any type of activity to remain competitive in the market. In particular, Artificial Intelligence enables companies to obtain more effective, higher quality, and faster results compared to human experts.
This technology is already being applied in the field of Industry 4.0, especially in quality control, but it could be used even better, making processes faster and more efficient.

Artificial Intelligence indeed has a significant impact on the entities that adopt it, both in terms of time and cost: in 2021 alone, Italy’s AI market grew by 27%, reaching a total value of 380 million Euros.

The Program

The event will take place in the afternoon, from 2:30 PM to 5:00 PM, and the five papers will be presented both remotely and in person, to give everyone the opportunity to participate.

The topics of interest of the papers, developed by internationally renowned authors from all over the world, are the applications of innovative technologies to achieve faster, more effective, and higher quality results, using, for example, Machine Learning and Explainable AI technologies.

These innovative technologies can be applied in numerous sectors, ranging from education to decision-making optimization. They can also be applied in sectors such as environmental sustainability and healthcare.

Statements from a Co-chair

Francesco Epifania, PhD and co-chair of AIABI, states: “I am certain that this year, too, the event will be an important opportunity to connect researchers and companies in the AI field and to gain significant insights into the various synergies and potentials of AI for increasing the value produced by their businesses, especially given the growing interest and constant growth of the Italian market.”

Epifania’s company, Social Thingum, is a Milanese technology transfer company among the 28 technology transfer centers accredited by the MISE, specialized in Artificial Intelligence, deep learning, and applied innovative technologies.

Thanks to the experience gained in turning academic research into impactful results in various business processes for client companies, Social Thingum has become a reference point both in Italy and internationally through technology transfer activities for SMEs and academic collaborations, of which this workshop is a demonstration.

Conclusion

The event is reserved for members of the Italian Association for Artificial Intelligence. It will be held tomorrow, 2 December 2022 at 2:45 PM at the University of Udine, but it can also be attended remotely via streaming.
