Future Connect – AI and Cloud for businesses and public administration: the first Italian innovation hub by TIM Enterprise and Google Cloud opens in Turin

The center aims to facilitate collaboration among institutional and research entities, partners, and companies, to boost competitiveness and Digital Transformation in both Italian public and private administrations

On June 6 in Turin, the new Customer Innovation Center by TIM Enterprise and Google Cloud was inaugurated—a digital laboratory aimed at accelerating Italy’s digital transition.

This innovative hub is set up as a real meeting point for institutional bodies, companies, and research centers, as well as for emerging entities interested in collaborating and proposing innovative solutions to fully exploit the potential of AI in business and corporate contexts.

The center is located at OGR Tech (Officine Grandi Riparazioni) in Turin, a 12,000 square meter space dedicated to innovation, research, and startup acceleration.

We at Social Thingum, who help Italian SMEs access the most innovative technologies through customized Digital Transformation paths, also attended the event with great interest. Here’s how it went.

The Projects

During the event, participants had the opportunity to explore Cloud and AI technologies applications and their possible uses to support industrial supply chain policies in various sectors, including manufacturing, finance, media, as well as projects aimed at digital sustainability transitions and smart cities.

Among the projects presented by TIM Enterprises are “TIM Urban GENIUS” and “TIM Cloud Mobility”, platforms designed to optimize and make urban city management and mobility smarter through intelligent transportation systems.

In TIM Enterprises’ vision for the future, environmental attention is not overlooked: the “Green IT” project proposes AI-based solutions to measure and reduce the carbon footprint produced by IT systems.

Participant Statements

According to estimates by the Tim Study Center in collaboration with Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center, by 2026 Artificial Intelligence will be responsible for about 2% of Italy’s GDP.

It is therefore not surprising that key players in Italy’s digital innovation, such as TIM Enterprises—which currently manages about 22% of all the Cloud infrastructure in Italy—are investing in projects like the new Customer Innovation Center in Turin.

At the inauguration event, TIM’s Chief Enterprise and Innovation Solutions Officer, Elio Schiavo, declared: “We have always stood by companies and public administrations to help them with two tasks: first, choosing the technology that makes the most sense to adopt, and then assisting them with the execution. We have always maintained a strong focus on the things that can help companies and public administrations become more agile, faster, more effective, efficient, and sustainable. To give you an idea of our effort, in this city we have 2,000 people, with 200 working in development and technological innovation labs. Today, this is the tip of our iceberg.”

Paolo Spreafico, Customer Engineering Italy Director at Google Cloud, stated: “The Customer Innovation Center in Turin emerges as a key resource for digital transformation and innovation. This center will serve as a beacon, providing Italian businesses and public organizations with the resources and expertise needed to fully harness the transformative potential of these technologies. Through collaboration and hands-on learning, the center will equip companies and institutions with the tools to develop innovative solutions.”

Conclusion

The opening of the Customer Innovation Center in Turin during “Future Connect” represents an important step towards the digitalization and innovation of Italian businesses and public administrations.

Thanks to the collaboration between TIM Enterprise and Google Cloud, the center will become a key catalyst for the growth and competitiveness of companies across the country.

For companies like Social Thingum, participating in events such as Future Connect is essential to forging new connections and better understanding market needs, while collaborating with other providers and stakeholders to shape the future of digital innovation in Italy with our expertise in Digital Transformation.
